Radio Redhill Chairman Nigel Gray with Cllr. David Powell.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Reigate and Banstead visited the station in December last year to record a special interview for Radio Redhill. Cllr. David Powell and Mrs Caroline Durance spoke to Nigel Gray and chose some music for the hour-long programme, which was broadcast on the 31st December 2016.
Cllr. Powell talked about his busy role as both a Mayor and a Councillor, as well as his fundraising (and hair-raising) escapades that involve skydiving and abseiling! Over the years, he has raised money for numerous charities, including Save The Children, YMCA and the Royal British Legion; in 2014, he became the oldest person in the world to perform a high-altitude, low-opening “Halo” skydiving jump, all in the name of charity.
The Mayor also talked about his favourite moments of being in office, from meeting the borough’s volunteers, to commemorating the end of the Battle of the Somme.
