It’s Our 50th Birthday!
Starting on Sunday 13th April for one week, we will be celebrating our birthday with guests in the studio, golden gems from the archive and a studio open day for the staff of the hospital.
At 2.00pm on Sunday April 13th the 50th Birthday Cake will be ceremonially cut. The Chief Executive of the Hospital Trust has been invited to officially start Birthday Week, along with Andrew Fowler, co-founder of Radio Redhill 50 years ago.
Later that afternoon, at 4.00pm, there will be a special 60-minute documentary, presented by Katie Child, telling the story of Radio Redhill since 1975.
Every day in Birthday Week from 10.00am until 5.00pm, there will be special programmes with studio guests and archive clips from broadcasts over the last 50 years.
We’ll be opening our doors throughout Monday April 14th from 10.00am to 5.00pm to all East Surrey Hospital staff to visit our studio on the hospital’s ground floor to see Radio Redhill in action – and enjoy some birthday cake!
Finally, there will be the chance to hear some notable archive interviews with local celebrities who have visited Radio Redhill to talk about their lives and choose their favourite music. These include the late Jean Metcalfe, who opened the first studio in the East Surrey Hospital 40 years ago in February 1985, Dame Judi Dench and broadcaster Nicholas Owen.
