Our Team
Radio Redhill comprises of a team of +/- 70 volunteers of whom around half are active members. Together we run the Radio Redhill broadcasting service which plays 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is more information available on the history of the station on our History page.
Many of us are involved in the actual presentation of the programmes and if you wish to, you can read more about the individual presenters. However, many volunteers fulfill other essential roles such as visiting the wards to collect requests etc. There is more information on how to join us on this page.
The contribution Radio Redhill and its members make to the life of the local community has been recognised by the number of community awards won by Radio Redhill members in recent years. Here are some of our winners over the last few years in the Reigate & Banstead Community Awards:
2010 | Lottie Ellis won an award in the Individual Volunteer category for her service to hospital patient over 25 years |
Sue Mason Brown was winner in the Trustee Category for her role as Radio Redhill secretary. | |
Mel Ellis won an award in the Young Volunteer Category for her tireless work as one of the Station’s Executive Producers. | |
2011 | Irwyn Davies won an award in the Individual Volunteer category for 25 years of high-quality programmes including the award-winning ‘Out & About’ programme. |
2012 | Irwyn Davies was again recognised but this time by Tandridge District Council for his work at Radio Redhill but also with Tandridge Talking Newspapers. |
Nigel Gray won an award in the Individual Trustee category for his 30+ years with the station (almost entirely as Chairman). | |
Jack Parker, still an active member at the age of 89, was commended for his fundraising efforts as well as his work with other charities. | |
2013 | Alan Stidder was honoured for his work as a Trustee and for many years as Vice-Chairman. |
2014 | Ian Wilson received an award for his 20 years’ service to the station including 18 years as Trustee and Station Engineer. |
2015 | Nick Hutchings received an award for his years of service as a Trustee and broadcaster. |
2016 | Bob Barnes received an award for his many years of service to the station as a broadcaster and trainer. |
2017 | Maria Speller received an award for her many years of service with Radio Redhill. |
2018 | Sian Wallis received an award for her service to the station as a broadcaster and Trustee. |
We don’t like to show off but …
We have also won a total of 56 awards (up to 2018) at the National Hospital Radio Awards presented at a star-studded gala evening each year by the Hospital Broadcasting Association. Well done to all the team!
